| PURGATORY:
1/3 SCALE MODEL FOR PACK-CAT© RECYCLING PROJECT #1 PURGATORY: 1/3-Scale Model, is a cubical configuration of modular plexi-glass boxes that serve as display cases and storage containers for groups of accumulations. The sources of the collections are variedsome are common waste materials, many are by-products of sculptural processes, while others are organic samples borrowed from nature. PURGATORY is a sculpture constantly in flux. Each box unit contains accretions in various states-of-process. The cube chambers are interchangeable; contents are constantly accruing and elements can be exchanged or shifted out in favor of different presentations. Every new exhibition reveals changes in the work, suggesting new possibilities for the sculpture to its viewers, as well as to its creator. PURGATORY is a 1/3-scale proto-type for a larger 54"x 54"x 54" plexi-glass sculpture. The PACK-CATÓ Recycling Project is a Social Sculpture initiated in the Fall of 1997. PACK-CATÓ was formed out of a concern with local and global Recycling issues and an interest in turning "found and collected" materials into sculptural objects. The underlying mission of PACK-CATÓ is expanding Recycling awareness locally and worldwide, and finding creative solutions for reducing waste. PACK-CATÓ has an ever-increasing base of dedicated contributors who save and donate materials for the effort. The next stage of evolution for the project is creating a full size PURGATORY sculpture and becoming a Foundation Organization. The PACK-CATÓ Projects long-term plans include construction of larger public PACK-CATÓ Recycling Containers, and community exhibitions of Recycled artworks. --Jeffrey Price
